Greetings Comedy Crowders,
It’s absurd that we spend so much time being generally furious with the behaviour of our fellow humans, but it is also very funny.
And people are most worthy of ire. They lack patience, perspective, and tact. They wash socks before ensuring a matched pair is verified, they bag sun loungers with intention of only a half hour lounge ‘later on’, and they fumble and faff at checkouts when the queue is stretched.
Our job as creators is to observe and to enshrine such behaviour in characters - but also never to lose the self awareness that we are pretty damn lucky to be around, and that anger not transformed into humour is an utterly pointless exercise.
This is not pointless…

Little Chick | Emerging Writers Programme
The Little Chick Emerging Writers Scheme is an exciting opportunity for writers based in the UK and Ireland, in the early stages of their career, to develop their TV screenwriting with BAFTA & Emmy award winning writer Abi Morgan and Sue Gibbs, Head of Development at Heyday Television UK. The course includes a five day residential retreat and three script meetings over the following months. The selected writers will work towards developing a TV pilot episode.
The David Nobbs Memorial Trust | New Comedy Writing Competition
The David Nobbs Memorial Trust, founded in 2016 after the death of the beloved Reggie Perrin author, opens its annual new comedy writing competition on Monday, 2nd February. Since its inception, the competition has endeavoured to encourage and champion emerging talent with financial aid, offering cash prizes to help ‘buy time’ for writing.
