‘In Theory’ can be fun because it’s controllable. It can be mapped in timely sequence with beautiful infographics and orderly arrows.
Reality is the devil that watches while you sketch out your perfect vision and casually tosses an unpaid bill, dentist appointment or toddler in your direction, knocking your elbow and squiggling your lines.
How can we respond? Build in a time and expectation buffer, for sure, but also celebrate the imperfection, because if you pay attention to it you might just find insights and perspectives that theory can’t conjure on its own. Next up…

The 503Five is an 18 month residency, offering five writers the opportunity to develop work and find their creative home at Theatre503 by experiencing being at the heart of a new writing theatre.
This scheme is designed for writers who have developed their craft to a high standard but are not yet professionally produced.
